Northern Beaches Hospital Connectivity and Network Enhancement Project awarded to Ferrovial York Joint Venture

Category: General / 01 July 2015

On 27th May 2015, Minister for Roads Duncan Gay joined local MPs Mike Baird (Manly), Brad Hazzard (Wakehurst), Jonathan O'Dea (Davidson) and Rob Stokes (Pittwater) in announcing Ferrovial York Joint Venture as the preferred tenderer to design and build the road upgrades surrounding the future Northern Beaches Hospital.

Minister Gay said Ferrovial York Joint Venture was selected from three organisations shortlisted last year to deliver the major package of work in time for the hospital opening in 2018.

"This is an exciting step for the Northern Beaches Hospital project and shows the NSW Liberals & Nationals are getting on with the job of providing not just upgraded health services but also supportive infrastructure and transport options," Mr Gay said.

"The major road upgrades will be carried out in two stages on key travel routes including Warringah Road, Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway"

Key features of the Project:

  1. Widening of Warringah Road from west of Fitzpatrick Avenue to east of Allambie Road to include:
    1. Subsurface eastbound and westbound travel lanes in a slot (underpass), through the middle of the Warringah Road corridor, generally from west of Forest Way through to east of Wakehurst Parkway for more than one kilometer
    2. Surface eastbound and westbound lanes running parallel to the slot as part of the Warringah Road corridor to provide access to side roads and the Northern Beaches Hospital
    3. Upgrades to intersections with Forest Way, Hilmer Street and Wakehurst Parkway at the surface level
  2. Widening, intersection upgrades, new signalised intersections and changes to access along
  3. sections of Forest Way, Naree Road, Frenchs Forest Road and Allambie Road
  4. Widening Wakehurst Parkway from north of the intersection with Frenchs Forest Road to south of Aquatic Drive
  5. Provision of a new connection at Aquatic Drive and Wakehurst Parkway
  6. Substantial utility relocations, including water, sewer, telecommunication, electricity and gas services
  7. Ancillary works for construction including, but not limited to, construction compounds and stockpile sites.
