Forrestfield Connect Consortium short-listed to design and construct Forrestfield-Airport Link

Category: General / 05 May 2015

The Western Australian state government has announced that three consortia have been shortlisted to bid for the design-build contract for Perth's Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL)

Five consortia were reported in late March as having submitted "strong" Expressions of Interest. Two of those five were not shortlisted.

Forrestfield Connect - ACCIONA Infrastructure, BAM International and Ferrovial Agroman is one of the three shortlisted consortia for the contract to build the $2 billion Forrestfield-Airport rail line.

The Western Australia Public Transport Authority (PTA) has issued a formal request for proposals (RFP) to the three shortlisted bidders, which will now develop fully-costed proposals for the project.

A contract will be awarded to the successful bidder in mid-2016. There will be a single construct package including tunnel and civil infrastructure, track, stations and rail systems with signalling, communications and power.

The 8.5 kilometre rail extension branches off the Midland Line, just east of Bayswater Station. It will feature three stations, Airport West, Consolidated Airport and Forrestfield.

Forrestfield-Airport Link provides a rail solution that improves transport connectivity to and from Perth Airport, the eastern suburbs and regional centres.

The new rail line will run underground in twin-bored tunnels beneath the Swan River and the airport will significantly reduce impacts on the local community and the environment.

The line is scheduled to open in 2020.
