Category: General / 11 October 2012

"Trust" was the theme chosen by Ferrovial for its 2012 Annual Executive Conference and to analyse the next steps the company is going to take.

A conference, moderated this year by the journalist Ana Garcia Siñeriz, which brought together more than 200 executives in the organisation and has served to review the most important milestones in 2012, go into depth into the future strategy and commemorate the fact that the company is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Commemoration of the 60th anniversary

Rafael del Pino, Chairman of Ferrovial, covered the early years of the company in the presence of some of the most senior employees and former employees who helped make Ferrovial what is today.

As part of this anniversary, the journalist Fernando Gonzalez Urbaneja, interviewed three of the last Chief Executive Officers of Ferrovial: Antonio Mendoza, from 1990 to 1992, Santiago Bergareche, from 1999 to 2002 and Joaquín Ayuso, from 2002 to 2009. Finally, Rafael del Pino, who was also Chief Executive Officer from 1992 to 1999, and Chief Executive Officer since 2009, Iñigo Meiras, took to the stage to take a unique photo, as it was the first time all the company's Chief Exectutive Officers were photographed together.

Business Units: review of the past year

After reviewing the history of Ferrovial, from the first railway sleepers for Renfe in the '50s to today, Iñigo Meiras, Chief Executive Officer, analysed the company's present and future in his speech and answered questions from six executives who became improvised journalists. During his speech, Meiras answered some of the audience's questions on Ferrovial's business in different countries, entry in emerging markets, innovation and financial aspects, among other things.

In addition, the journalist Ana Garcia Siñeriz, handed over to the presentations of the four businesses, who analysed, both by division and geography, the national and international situation and the forecasts for 2013.

Evolution in the markets and Corporate Governance

The visit of the economist Juergen Donges, who gave his views on how the Eurozone will evolve in these difficult times, and the talk of Jaime Carvajal, Independent Director of Ferrovial, who illustrated the convention on corporate governance, were among the conference's highlights. There were more points of views from people outside of Ferrovial who spoke about the company: the journalist Jorge Rivera and the analyst Simon Waite, also shared with the audience how Ferrovial is seen from outside the company.

Interview with the Chairman

Finally, in a new televised format, nine personalities linked to the Chairman's environment, both through emotional relationships as well as professionals from the infrastructure sector, were responsible for conducting the interview with Rafael del Pino.

The conference was livened up by some of the photographs of renowned photographer Jose Manuel Ballester who has travelled the world to offer his particular vision of some of Ferrovial's most outstanding works and projects, which were shown on the screens throughout the entire conference, as well as by the live music by the band Musicart. Furthermore, "The Manual against Waste" was handed out, an interesting internal guide from 1962 that has been reissued for the anniversary and in which it can be seen that the foundations for good corporate governance are the same today as half a century ago.
